What's included

What a postnatal visit involves

Each visit covers five areas of care.

Feeding support

Most newborns feed every 2 to 4 hours. If feeding is not going well, getting support early can make a real difference.

Baby weight

Healthy babies can lose up to 10% of their birth weight in the first week, then return to it by 2 to 3 weeks with regular feeding. Weighing shows how your baby is tracking.

Wound checks

A check on how any stitches or a caesarean scar are healing while you recover.

Baby checks

A look at your baby's general health and wellbeing in their first weeks at home.

General wellbeing support

A new baby can be tiring and overwhelming. Your visit includes time to talk about how you are feeling, physically and emotionally.

Postnatal care visits support you after your baby is born. They are for individuals and families who have recently had a baby.

Rebecca comes to you, anywhere across the Sydney metropolitan area, so your visit happens in the comfort of your own home.

You book one visit at a time and arrange the next when you need it, so you only have the visits you actually want.

Before you book

Medicare and payment

Medicare

Medicare rebates

Medicare rebates may be available for eligible antenatal and postnatal midwifery services. Rebecca processes your Medicare claim for you after your appointment.

Paying for your care

You pay for your appointment on the day, usually by card. Rebecca does not ask for a deposit. Any Medicare rebate is claimed afterwards.

Fees are discussed when you enquire, so you know what to expect before you book.

Up to what age do postnatal visits occur?

Postnatal visits are available until your baby is 7 weeks old.

How many visits will I need?

As many as you find helpful within that time. Visits are booked one at a time, and you arrange the next one at or after your current appointment, so you are never locked into a package.

Do I still need to see a child health nurse?

Yes. In Australia, families usually have their first appointment with a local child health nurse about 10 days after coming home with their baby. Keep this appointment as well as your visits with Rebecca.

How can I get my home ready for a newborn?

It helps to set up your home so nappies, wipes, spare clothes and any feeding equipment are easy to reach. In the first few days, there is no need to worry about a schedule.
